THE FOREST IN MICROSCALE

Three thousand small worlds are gathered into one middle thousand world; three thousand middle thousand worlds are gathered into one big thousand world - each corner between the trillions of tree crowns and underground root systems has its own scenery.

The Forest Service's 2023 calendar uses the theme of "Little Thousand Forests" to introduce the tiny creatures in the forest, from fungi, mosses, ferns, dark creatures in underground corners, fish and shrimps on the stream bed, to small birds among the branches. By looking at pollen and spores under a microscope, readers can learn about their characteristics and habitats, as well as their complex and regular ecological relationships. From the microcosm of the microscopic forest, through a new perspective on small creatures, we can see the microscopic scenery in the forest that is often overlooked, and their importance that cannot be underestimated.
